It had been a few days since Clint's failed attempt to sabotage SHIELD headquarters. Phil had spent most of those days running around doing damage control for Clint and trying to get the damage under control. Thankfully, he had a good team under him and the IT department was getting everything re-secured. Meanwhile, the few people who had wound up in medical were healing, Clint included. Overall, it had been more like a surprise drill than a real emergency, which had made the damage control part of Phil's job easier.
There really wasn't any fooling Fury, though, and he'd been pretty angry about the whole thing. That Clint was going to be benched for a little while was an undeniable truth, but Phil was confident that it wouldn't be too long. Clint was good and Phil had a lot of sway. Those two facts worked in his favor. Phil was still worried about the man, though. he still wanted to give Clint time to rest, even if he didn't want it.
Truthfully, Phil was just happy to have distractions. The more he was able to focus on keeping Clint out of trouble and getting things fixed, the less he had to think about Clint kissing him. Of course, every minute that he wasn't working, he was thinking about Clint and that kiss and how he wanted to kiss him again. He'd been avoiding being alone with Clint for just that reason. He had no idea what to do about any of this. The fact that Clint had never shown any interest until he was brainwashed and suffering from head trauma didn't exactly fill him with confidence about the situation. He didn't want to push Clint when he was still trying to get his head back on straight.
He sat in his office, filling out reports and double-checking IT requests that had to be sent out. He was pretty much in paperwork Hell. Things have been worse in the past, but that doesn't mean he enjoys all of this desk work. He should have been out in the field, not spending days on end at his desk. It didn't help that he still hadn't been cleared for active duty again from his injury. At this rate, he would never get out of the office.
